YEO/Club Information

Who can be the YEO?

The YEO is a position held by a Rotarian in any club which is hosting or sponsoring a student. The YEO is often appointed by the club president, soemtimes elected, but always a willing volunteer.

YEO and Club Resources

Being a YEO (Youth Exchange Officer)

What a rewarding position. One of the most unique in Rotary. To help you out, we have created an Annual Guide.

Being a YEO is also one of the more time consuming positions in Rotary. Students need you to be involved, the district needs you to be involved and your club needs you to be involved. A YEO can do a lot to affect the quality of an exchange. A good YEO literally takes ownership of their position and resposability for their decisions.

It is important for all new YEO's to register their email with us, using the link at the bottom of the page, so we can effectivley communicate with you. You will receive occasional invitations to events, notices of training seminars and allow us to communicate with you regarding a student-inbound or a potential outbounder.

As a YEO, you have two main jobs-

1-Find, evaluate, interview and foward potential outbound students to the District for consideration.

2-Maintain a strong relationship with the inbound student, be there when they need your assistance, find their host families (up to 4 typically), integrate them into their new home, club, school and city. Almost like the surrogate aunt or uncle

caretaker!

While it seems like a lot of work, the District is heavily involved with the students. There are country contacts for every country that are the main contact for a YEO in the event of an issue or question. The students have a few mandatory weekends where the district meets with them and works with them. The schools get involved, other Rotarians get involved and the community always helps support the students needs.
